Artistic Photography may be new to the Quad Cities, but it’s not new to wedding and portrait photography. Shawn Reimers of Artistic Photography has been documenting weddings and fashion for years. Born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, Shawn developed his interest in photography while in high school. After graduation, Shawn joined the Army and shortly after found himself half way around the world in Desert Storm. It was there that Shawn’s passion for photography grew as he documented his experiences. It wasn’t until early 2000 when Shawn moved to Phoenix to finally make his mark in the world of photography.

After several years working between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Shawn and his wife decided in summer 2007 to return to Iowa and start a family. Knowing the values of the midwest, this was an easy choice for them. With their first child due at the beginning of February, they are happy to have her born an Iowan, where education is important and family comes first.

Shawn best describes his style of photography as “freestyle”. He combines his background in fashion, his eye for photojournalism, and a touch of traditional. Shawn likes to document the true raw emotions of the wedding day. He also gives some direction when photographing formals to give that “captured” moment. Through illusion, Shawn is good at giving an image that “caught in the moment” look. But truth be told, he works hard to create those moments combining the right location, light, and all other elements that make for a great image.

Today, Shawn is a mentor to many up and coming photographers. While living in Phoenix, Shawn taught photography at Paradise Valley Community College. He enjoyed sharing his passion with others and continues to this day through workshops and apprenticeships. Occasionally, Shawn will also have an intern in the studio. It’s worth noting that Shawn is the only photographer in Eastern Iowa accepted into WPJA, the Wedding Photojournalist Association.

Ultimately, if you want a unique wedding experience, Artistic Photography is there to provide it. “We deffinitely don’t provide your traditional wedding portraiture”, Shawn says. “There are plenty of photographers out there that offer traditional photography. Our clients want something very creative and unique.
